Wooden Quilts

The Wooden quilts as a series of work consist of smaller quilt block pieces as well as more involved works consisting of quilt patterns. The quilt patterns are made using wooden veneers and are either hand cut or cut using a laser cutter. The idea of a quilt represent the ideas of comfort, home, security and childhood for Van Oot. By referencing the traditionally feminine craft of quilting through the medium of wood Van Oot challenges the gendered associations of craft work.
